The Adventures of Dante
Dec. 23rd, 2011 06:58 pmSaw the Adventures of TinTin last night with a couple friends of mine. I had my doubts about it, because I actually hate rotoscope animation with a fiery passion, but for this film? It actually worked well for it. Color me surprised.
It's visually a gorgeous movie, so much so that you get actually get lost in the animation. I know this will probably be all I ramble on about, but I can't stress enough how beautiful this film was animated. The flow of the movie was just fantastic.
As far as the plot goes, it's your typical mystery/action story. A lot of the big reveals are done halfway through the film, surprisingly enough, so there's no super huge plot twist at the very end. But it's an enjoyable film if you like action/adventure stuff, and while I don't know much about the TinTin comics it did have kind of the old adventure story feel to it.
I gotta say, TinTin himself is kind of a bland character, most of what he does is motivated to "discover the great mystery!!" or "get the latest story!!" I mean, that's really all there is to his character, but from what I've read that's how he is in the comics too. The Captain was great, and hell, the Snowy actually did more of the work in this movie then any of the other characters.
All in all, I really recommend this movie, even if you don't care much for the typical action adventure stories it's visually stunning and the movie itself is very entertaining. I look forward to the not so subtly implied sequel if it's anywhere as good as this film.
Now for non-movie related things, my friend actually gave me a Twilight Sparkle and a Mario plush for Christmas. After a very crappy holiday season (and I mean very, very crappy), it was probably one of the nicest things I've had happen to me in a while. I actually really wanted some MLP stuff, but I was too afraid to ask because...well, it's My Little Pony. Luckily I have awesome friends who are also into the series as much as I am. And now I'm in the process of trying to make her a Derpy Hooves doll because I am broke but I still want to make Christmas gifts for my friends.
In Christmas news, my shopping is now done! I just have to survive Xmas Eve tomorrow and I'll finally be free. ...Maybe a little too free, since my job decided I don't need hours anymore after the holiday season.
Here's hoping I find more work after the holidays! Also, I need more icons.
